They were separated in a storm while sailing to the Americas. Cabeza and his ship sailed to Texas coast and then rejoined by survivors scattered on the shore. The Indians favored the Spaniards including Cabeza, because they thought he could cure their illnesses. When they would try to cure their illnesses they would pray, use signs of the cross then would burn or sear their wounds or help there sickness.
